For privacy, use the correct product type. Pre-welded vertical Verti-BARR, batten, Blade and slat pool panels give some visual screening, but they are designed with pool-safe visibility gaps (edges typically 70–90mm depending on the style) so the pool area can still be seen. For serious privacy needs, look at horizontal slat screening systems in a pool-compliant configuration of either no gaps or 5mm gaps.

There are two trade-offs worth weighing. If airflow through the pool area is important to you, solid glass may not be the best choice — perforated aluminium lets far more air through. And in small, sun-exposed courtyards, glass panels can add to summer heat build-up. Maintenance is the other consideration: glass may need more regular cleaning, especially in coastal areas, around sprinklers, near trees, or in hard-to-access parts of the pool area.

Perforated Pool Fencing

Best for: customers who want a premium, low-maintenance, architectural pool fence with excellent, near-unobstructed visibility and high airflow.

Our Premium Perf is a modern architectural alternative to glass and tubular fencing. It uses marine-grade aluminium sheets precision-punched with thousands of small 9mm holes, set very close together, giving a high open area of roughly 55–60%. The result is excellent, near-unobstructed visibility — you can clearly see children in the pool, air flows freely through, and from a distance the fine holes blend together so the panel looks almost transparent. It is not a privacy fence: with this much open area you can see through it much like glass, so choose it for its clear-view look and low maintenance, not for screening. Being solid marine-grade aluminium, it's tough, corrosion-resistant and holds together on impact rather than shattering.

A standout practical benefit is maintenance: unlike glass, the aluminium panels don't show fingerprints, watermarks or soap splatter, so they need far less cleaning. That makes Premium Perf ideal where frameless glass would look great but airflow, easier cleaning or reduced glass maintenance matter — and it works beautifully for a whole pool fence or as a design feature alongside glass, flat-top, Verti-BARR or Blade.

One thing to weigh: our professional-grade Premium Perf is the most expensive style in our range — significantly more than frameless glass, batten or slat panels. The panels are constructed from thick 2.5mm marine-grade alloy (such as 5052 H32) to withstand harsh coastal environments, and finished with heavy-duty architectural powder coating. You're paying for a genuinely premium, durable, low-maintenance architectural finish, so it's best chosen where that specific combination suits the project.

A word of caution: be wary of ultra-thin ~0.6mm "steel" perforated panels that have entered the market. In Fence Guru's professional opinion, these thin steel panels are unlikely to last well and look good over time, and are certainly not a premium product. Verti-BARR Batten Pool Fencing

Best for: a designer vertical batten look that can suit pool fencing, front fencing, garden fencing and architectural outdoor areas.

Verti-BARR is a uniquely designed aluminium batten panel for customers who want something more architectural than standard flat-top aluminium. It features sturdy 50 x 25mm vertical battens with the 25mm side front-facing and a 93mm gap between each batten. What sets it apart is the clever construction: slimline 25 x 25mm horizontal top and bottom rails, in a heavy-duty 2.8mm wall, pass through the centre of the punched battens, and the slimline posts (typically 50 x 25mm flanged or in-ground) are sized to match the battens. The result is that the fence posts are very hard to see — they blend into the line of battens, creating a distinctive, seamless "floating batten" look.

Like other pre-welded vertical pool fence panels, Verti-BARR is not designed as a full privacy screen. Its 93mm vertical gaps keep the pool visible for supervision and compliance. Like other vertical batten and blade styles, it gives an ever-changing semi-privacy effect — the view through the fence shifts as you move past and look from different angles — so it offers a semi-private designer look rather than a solid privacy wall.

Blade Pool Fencing

Best for: a bold, high-end architectural pool fence with a stronger vertical profile than standard tubular fencing.

Blade pool fencing features narrow 50 x 16mm (or 50 x 10mm) vertical aluminium "blades" with a 79mm gap (or 80mm) between them, face-welded to sturdy 40 x 40mm horizontal rails. This creates a striking vertical-fin design — the look often called "radiator" fencing, the name coming from the row of upright fins, similar to the fins on a radiator. Face-welding the blades to the rails gives a clean, contemporary finish and an ever-changing semi-privacy effect: the view through the fence shifts as you move past it and look from different angles, allowing light and airflow through while keeping the pool visible.

It's a premium architectural choice that suits modern homes, coastal architecture, pool surrounds, front fencing and selected commercial areas. As a vertical pool-safe panel it balances a strong designer look with the airflow and sightlines a pool fence needs — a premium architectural pool fence, not a full privacy screen.

Slat Fencing & Screens

Best for: privacy screening, modern outdoor areas and selected pool fencing applications where the correct pool-compliant system is used.

Slat fencing covers two different needs. Pre-made vertical slat pool fencing panels and gates are designed for pool areas — featuring sleek 50 x 10mm vertical slats with 80mm spacing (90mm centres), cast-capped for strength, and 38 x 25mm rails routed through each slat. This spacing keeps the pool visible for supervision and compliance. Like Verti-BARR and Blade, they give an ever-changing semi-privacy effect as you move past and change viewing angle. These are ideal when you want a modern slat look while still keeping the pool area open enough to supervise.

For stronger privacy, horizontal aluminium slat screening systems are usually the better option.
